Libertarians are for the little guy…

I’ve been following Ron Paul for a long time now, long before he declared his bid for the 2008 Presidency. One of the things I’m doing to help promote his name is to staff a booth at our local farmers market. The town I live in is very liberal, with a majority of registered Democrats–a small wonder with a huge university located right next to downtown. So suffice to say I have met extraordinary people and had interesting conversations. And yes, I’ve had my share of abuse.

One fellow came by the booth and proceeded to lambaste libertarian thinking, calling libertarians people who just didn’t care about anyone else, only themselves and to hell with the poor and old people. He was angry, his face reddening as he shouted. My fellow booth staffer and I looked at each other, and then walked away to talk to the next person. There really isn’t much point in shouting back and arguing–this gets you nowhere. But I really started thinking about what he said–or should I say, his point of view about libertarians.

Ron Paul Second in Louisiana!

Congressman Ron Paul was in (what sources say was an extremely close race) second place to McCain, and Villere said, “I applaud the supporters of Congressman Paul for their enthusiasm…I left the caucus with a renewed commitment to promote…limited government and individual freedom, thanks to the zeal displayed by Congressman Paul’s Louisiana supporters.”

Article is here at ConnieTalk. ABC news Australia has a story where they call Paul a “longshot,” even though he’s taken second place in two states so far.

UPDATE: here is a link from the Louisiana GOP.

Also, here is a nice artcle at Nolan Chart describing provisional voting:

First provisional votes are not yet included in the count. Provisional votes are all those cast by recently registered Republicans. Paul tends to have a lot of supporters who recently registered Republican to vote for him, so prsumably as these votes are verified and counted his numbers will rise.

So we may see a surge of votes coming in–wouldn’t it be excellent to give Paul a win!

The Energy NON Crises

Lindsey Williams talks about his first hand knowledge of Alaskan oil reserves larger than any on earth. And he talks about how the oil companies and U.S. government won’t send it through the pipeline for U.S. citizens to use.

Paulonomics

In an article by Donald Luskin, the point is raised that, “it would be a real mistake to think of Paul as the Dennis Kucinich of the right.”

Nut or not, Paul isn’t going away. His message is combining intense opposition to the war in Iraq with a strong agenda for free-market capitalism. So it’s drawing grass-roots support from both parties. Even if it’s a bridge too far for him to capture the GOP nomination, he could mount an insurgent run for the presidency with cross-party appeal and fundraising power, probably as the nominee of the Libertarian party (on whose ticket he ran for president in 1988). He could end up shaping the coming election as H. Ross Perot did the 1992 race — denying either major-party candidate the mandate of a majority of the popular vote, and shifting the center of gravity on important issues.

I’d rather have him win, but if he doesn’t, perhaps injecting this discussion in the national debate–a discussion the other candidates don’t want to have, there could be hope for this country yet. Anyway, enjoy the article!

Pass Ron Paul’s “Honest Money Act” (HR 2756)

From the article:

Congressman Ron Paul’s 15-word “Honest Money Act” (HR 2756) would repeal the 41-word legal tender law. You can read both using using the Background tab above. If you’re well versed in economics and already know why this simple change could help end inflation, recessions, bubbles, booms, and busts, then you can go right to the part of this page where you can ask your elected representatives to cosponsor HR 2756.

Please write your congress-critter! The Fed enjoys an unconstitutional and immoral monopoly on currency. They punish the poor and middle class with a wealth transfer to the rich. Let’s give them some good old American competition!

A U.S. soldier risks his freedom to help us get *our* freedom back!

“An account of why I am
leaving the U.S. Army – and joining the Ron Paul Revolution.”

This fellow is a true patriot, risking a great deal by speaking out! I like his point–you may not agree with everything Dr. Paul says, but he’s the only one that has a platform that recognizes and addresses the very grave threats to our republic. Please watch this video and spread it around!

In Case We Have Forgotten Why We Support Ron Paul…

This is not a war on terror, this is a war of terror.

Watch the video at dailypaul.com.

I don’t understand how people can continue to be fooled that this war is justified. We need to get out of Iraq–period. How can you argue for the war when you listen to what this woman has to say? I personally have no idea what it would be like to have your power, water, phone, Internet and garbage just cut. Imagine no food and contaminated drinking water. Imagine the threat of having bombs from the sky bombard your home at any time without warning.
